It was developed by the IETF’s, Audio Video Transport Working Group and was first published as RFC 1889 in the year 1996. Session Description Protocol

Session Description Protocol has been published by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) as an IETF Proposed Standards or RFC 4566 in April 1998. SDP can be used for a wider range of network applications and network environments. However, it does not support negotiation of media encoding and session content. SDP describes multimedia communication sessions for session announcement, session invitation and parameter negotiation.
